The freely available source code provides for low prices, future availability and independency from manufacturers. If external add-on programs are used, these are also available in Open Source. For example, the visualization program ProcessViewBrowser can be downloaded for free from the web (incl. source text).
The source code of AwiControl was programmed using C++ and is platform independent. All software components can run on different operating systems. By default, the automation server runs on a panel PC with Embedded Linux as the operating system. The visualization program runs both on Windows and on Linux/Unix.
Fuzzy logic is a method of artificial intelligence. By using fuzzy logic the complex expert know-how is relatively easily integrated in the automation system. New know-how can be introduced at any time. For example, fuzzy logic is used for the identification of the plant's utilization or for the performance standard of the CHP.
Visualization units as well as control components can be at different locations. Remote maintenance is therefore easy and wiring efforts are reduced. The cost-effective and fast Ethernet is the first choice for a bus connection. You can easily access the system from the control room, from the office, from home and even when you are on holidays. Of course remote access is protected accordingly.
Despite the high level of automation the biogas plants are easily operated. The visualization program is graphically structured and self-explanatory. Symbols are deliberately simple in design and are based on industry standards. Colours are not used at random but have a unique meaning.
